About the NRA Basic Pistol "Blended" Version

Imagine learning the basics of handgun safety and marksmanship from the comfort of your own home and at your own pace! Then once you complete the 11 online learning modules and complete a 50 question quiz, you visit us at Philly Firearms Academy for the hands on portion and a brief qualification. Don't worry! If you don't pass the exam the first time you'll have four additional opportunities to take the exam.

The NRA Basic Pistol "Blended" course was designed to combine the best of two worlds; Online learning and the proficiency that comes with having an actual instructor verify that you've absorbed the information! This version of the The NRA Basic Pistol Course allows the student to learn at their own pace and fit quality training into their hectic lives!

About Phase 1 Online

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is a blended learning course, which means that part of the course (Phase 1) is done online, at your own time and pace. Once you complete the online part and pass the exam, we will register you for the instructor-led hands on training portion known as Phase 2.

Phase 2 is held at Philly Firearms Academy and led by NRA Certified Instructors and Certified Range Safety Officers and consists of hands on exercises and a brief shooting qualification. Once completed, you immediately receive your Basics of Pistol Shooting course completion certificate but most importantly, you learn the skills to handle any handgun properly, confidently and safely.

About Phase 2 at Philly Firearms Academy


Our Phase 2 of the NRA Basic Pistol Course is given in a safe, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere the goal of which is to verify the students understanding of the fundamentals of shooting and core firearms safety skills. We also verify your familiarization with the your handgun of choice if you own one, along with the necessary skills to properly handle, shoot, transport, store, and clean a revolver or semi-automatic pistol through practical hands on exercises.

We offer the course like no other in Philadelphia, as we gear our courses to the new shooter that is interested in personal and home protection and concealed carry. We include not only the NRA content but also include additional content geared to those individuals, along with information on firearms laws and use of deadly force so that you know when you can shoot and more importantly, when you can’t.

During the course we review your familiarization with the parts and operation of both revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, handgun and revolver action types, the fundamentals of shooting, core firearms safety skills and safe gun handling practices, and culminates with the NRA Basic Pistol Certification, which serves as formal proof and is the "gold standard" of firearms safety training and recognized as such around the country.

In the event you do own a firearm and wish to use it to qualify during the qualification portion of the course, then you should bring your firearm along with 50 rounds of range ammunition. If you don't own a firearm, both the firearm and the ammunition required to qualify will be provided AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.

There are not additional prerequisites for this course, other than proof of the successful completion of the online Phase 1 portion of the course.

The complete cost of the the course is $300 which includes Phase 1 and phase 2 registration, textbook and learning materials, ammunition and range fees and ongoing support through our Philly Firearms Academy's extensive network of firearms professionals and services.
